***IMPORTANT This update upgraded the door library. For Linux the experience is much improved, but you may need to recheck your settings. For instance Syncrhonet is now set up for Socket instead of running in standard mode. For Mystic, make sure you implement the -X command line parameter.
This game allows your users to get a word of the day unique to your local systems. Users compete to guess the word of the day.
QUICK UPDATE For all updates, you should back up the entire directory just to be safe. Basically you need to make sure you do not overwrite your database files.
Updating from 2024.10.2 Copy in new executable (bbswordle.exe or bbswordle) and this new sysop.doc for future reference.
Updating from 2022.11.4 Copy in new executable (bbswordle.exe or bbswordle), copy del_wordle.ans, header.ans, menu.ans, and this new sysop.doc for future reference.
Updating from 2022.10.8 or earlier All requirements above as well as the new bbswordle.cfg file.
SYSOP GUIDE
This software is released as freeware. Free to distribute and use as you want. I wouldn't mind hearing from you if you do get it set up on your system. Blue Sky @bbswordle.com, X @alexandercorris, or e-mail alexcorris@outlook.com
All Installs
From the command line you can type bbswordle /local to execute the local version of the game. Some of the ANSI might not look as great as it does when hooked up to a true terminal.
Linux/Pi Instructions
Extract the contents into your doors directory. Install SQLLite if you don't already have it (example) - sudo apt install sqlite3 sudo apt install sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev
If you want to use the automatically generated bulletin on exit (bulletin.ans, bulletin2.ans), you may need to drop a one time chmod +r on whatever user you use to execute your reader.

Instructions to install Wordle under MBSE BBS By Sean Dennis (sysop@outpostbbs.net) =============================================
*** You MUST do this as user "mbse"! ***
1. Open a shell and run umask 007.
1. Unpack archive into a directory. In this example, I'm using /opt/mbse/doors/wordle.
2. You need to chmod a few files: * chmod 0770 bbswordle * chmod 0660 *
3. Create this script in /opt/mbse/bin. I call it "runwordle":
#!/bin/bash cd /opt/mbse/doors/wordle ./bbswordle -D$1/door32.sys cp ./bulletin.ans /opt/mbse/share/int/txtfiles/en/blt61.ans
Make sure you "chmod +x runwordle".
4. Create a menu entry for the door:
8.3. EDIT MENU ITEM
1. Sel. key W 2. Type nr. 7 Run external program in shell 3. Opt. data /opt/mbse/bin/runwordle /U 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890 4. Display 5. Security 0 -------------------------------- 6. Min. age 0 12. No door.sys No 7. Lo-colors Normal display color 13. Use COMport Yes 8. Hi-colors Bright display color 14. Run nosuid Yes 9. Autoexec No 15. No Prompt Yes 10. Door Name Wordle 16. Single User No 11. Y2K style No 17. Hidden door No
The /U will expand to the user's home directory under MBSE. You do not need to send a node number with DOOR32.SYS.
Now test the door and make sure it works.
Windows 32/64 Bit Instructions
For Windows 32/64 bit you just need to copy the files into your doors directory and set up.
I've only tested on GameServer for these environments. I created a .bat file called start.bat:
@echo off cd doors\wordle bbswordle.exe -Dc:\gserver\node%1\door32.sys
Must be a windows system. Unzip to C:\gameserver unless you want to edit the start.bat file to change to your corresponding directory Should work out of the box, just try telnetting to localhost after you double click the GameServer GUI. If anyone has trouble actually doing this just e-mail me.
Other Stuff -
On exit, bulletin.ans and bulletin2.ans is created to generate interest on your board. You can put that in your bulletins section or when the user is logging in.
Update log 2024.12.13 Fixed Minor issue discovered by Sean Dennis of Outpost BBS with the calendar starting the weekly display on the wrong day. Also moved the calendar down one for better view.
2024.10.2 Fixed minor issue discovered by BlaZZZe where if you looked at last month's scores for a month that only had 30 days, the rest of the screens would only show 30 even if the current month had 31.
2024.10.1 Fixed issue with days 1-9 passing with leading 0 on the display screen after taking turn Fixed issue with last month's results showing 31 days on 30 days Added back in special thanks to xbit for spitfire dos version testing
2024.9.16 New Header thanks to Jamie Martin (delicious/blocktronics) On current months top scores it now shows total days played next to the player name Completely reworked top scores display throughout New header on a new bulletin (bulletin2.ans) Scores are hidden across the board until the player takes that day's turn Pop up windows for play ahead and view single days scores with grayed out background New installs now come default with plural words removed
"Util" now included as part of the default install for Linux, Win32, and Win64. Allows for removal of cheating players and removal of plural words in already existing systems.
2022.11.4 By request, new setting in config file that allows you to set the winner alert once you correctly guess the word. Default is Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! (anything under that character count should work).
2022.10.25 Word guesses with more than one letter now color appropriately like they do in the original game. This was a major request ask and I'm glad it's done!
There's now a config file with two settings in it. First one is a setting to turn on or off to check for a new version. If you are experiencing too long of a pause on start up or if bbswordle.com is no longer available set this to 0. Default is 1. The other setting was asked for by a user which is the idle time limit. The default is seven minutes (420 seconds).
There's now a way to see the individual scores from a single day in the month. For example, you might want to see how you did in comparison to others on an earlier previous day of the month.
2022.10.8 Daily winners display allows for longer handles User logged in is yellow text on previous winners screen Version Check on startup (a bbs door game first? checks to see if there's a new release available and alerts if there is) Fix for the Daily Winner's screen. Earlier versions had a bug that would make this screen display incorrectly.
